If you are interested in Learn to Speed Skate, we’d love you to come out and give it a try! The only requirement is that you know how to skate unassisted.

Our Fall 2024 session is now open for registration! Please sign up using our registration form for Fall 2023. We will contact you to confirm your spot.

- Thursday September 19, 7-7:50 pm.
- Tuesday September 24, 7 to 7:50 pm.
- Thursday September 26, 7 to 7:50 pm.
Who can join? We welcome all ages. Our youngest skaters are usually 5 or 6 and have some previous skating experience. Speed skating includes all ages, with lots of training, racing and coaching training opportunities for teens and adults. It doesn’t matter right now if you are interested in speed skating for recreation and exercise, racing, or if you are just curious. All are welcome at Learn to Speed Skate.
What about skates? We have a large inventory of new and gently used speed skates in a wide range of adult and junior sizes. Skate use is included in the registration fee. In order to help us with planning and to help us ensure skates are available in your size, we need your shoe size in advance (please put this on the registration form), and foot length in cm if at all possible.
What about gear? Safe speed skating includes gear! Cost for the L2SS program includes skate rental. Other equipment that you will require will include:
- bicycle or hockey helmet (no cage needed) or ski helmet
- cut-resistant neck guard with bib
- elbow pads are highly recommended
- gloves (heavy leather or ski gloves or hockey gloves)
- knee pads (volleyball style preferred – we have loaners of these in most sizes)
- shin pads (soccer style, no ankle cups)
- cutproof socks if you have them, otherwise we will lend ankle guards
- water bottle
- athletic clothing (tights are good) with a layer on top (like a hoodie)
How many sessions? Our Learn to Speed Skate Program includes 4 on-ice sessions, and skate rental for $100. If you wish to join for an upcoming season, you can rent speed skates from our club.
Where? Sessions will be held at the London Major Appliances Rink at the Western Fair District Sports complex. When you arrive at the arena, check the TV monitors to see which change room is assigned to our group.
